FF01: Meet Full Cycle
Each Friday, we publish a post from the team at Full Cycle – beneficiaries of the Surly Masher. These snapshots of their work and the youth served will help you get to know them better, and appreciate the importance of supporting youth experiencing homelessness in our community. We also encourage you to visit Full Cycle Bike Shop in South Minneapolis to see their work first-hand, check out the shop’s inventory, and get set-up for winter.
Bikes that give back
Full Cycle is grateful to be the beneficiary for the FIRST-EVER collaboration between Surly Bikes and Surly Brewing. We look forward to providing you with weekly "Friday Feature" and hope to paint an inclusive picture of all we do. Stay tuned for posts about field trips with interns, interviews with young people that engage with Full Cycle, and exciting stories about the work we do. For example …
Full Cycle Food Delivery is an employment program for graduates of our internship program. Each week in the spring/ summer months, riders gear up and bike-deliver fresh and healthy groceries to other young people.
Our Mobile Winter Pop-Up Food Shelf is set up and staffed on-site of various youth serving housing agencies in Minneapolis, delivering shelf-stable Matter boxes and other groceries, while also sharing a meal, building relationships, and offering connections to resources.
Come check us out!
We'd love to have you pay us a visit. Maybe you'll find your dream bike on our sales floor. Perhaps you'll need fast and helpful service from one of our interns in the shop. Or maybe you'd like to donate a bike or some gently used parts you no longer needed. Whatever the reason, Full Cycle is much more than a neighborhood bike shop in South Minneapolis.
Selling bikes, bike parts, and bicycle repair services helps Full Cycle offer the following services to young people in our community experiencing homelessness, in order to support them as they seek independence and stability:
- Free Bike Appointments to increase access to affordable, reliable transportation.
- Food Access Programming including Full Cycle Food Delivery & Pop-up Winter Food Shelf — getting meals, groceries, and cooking skills to young people.
- Paid Bike Mechanic Internships to increase skills and employability.
- Street Outreach services to get young people experiencing or at risk of homelessness connected to the resources they needs such as shelter, housing, food, health services, and hygiene supplies.
That's what we mean by 'bikes that give back.' Come see it in action!
